Family systems theory

Family systems theory looks at the individual as an interlocking part of the whole family system and addresses patterns of interaction. Roles/positions, hierarchies, and multigenerational transmission processes/patterns are some of the factors considered. Much of EFT is influenced by family systems theory as it focuses on creating positive shifts in partners’ interactional positions and patterns of communication.
