Psychoanalytic psychotherapy

Psychoanalytic/psychodynamic psychotherapy helps to frame my understanding of the whole person(s), including finding meaning from the past. This includes the recent past as well experiences originating from childhood and developmental history. It is insight-oriented, and focuses on both conscious and unconscious dynamics that influence behavior. I consider myself a relational psychoanalyst, which means I work in an active way that emphasizes the value of the therapeutic relationship. As such, I pay attention to relational patterns as they unfold in the therapy session. Factors of safety, trust, and feeling seen and accepted by the therapist are paramount to move the therapy forward. Research shows that the single most common factor predicting successful therapy is a positive therapeutic relationship.
